Sheffield United could sign former Liverpool and Derby defender Andre Wisdom after news has emerged that he has begun training the Sheffield United team after leaving Birmingham City.

Wisdom, 28 left the financially struggling Pride Park club last summer and has been without a football club since. He had started his career with Liverpool after coming through the Reds Academy in 2011. Unfortunately, he failed to make the grade and after six years, where he made 21 appearances, he joined Derby County in a £4.5million transfer in July 2017. Whilst with the Anfield club he also spent time away on-loan at; Derby, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, and RB Salzburg.

With Derby, he has made over century appearances and scored twice as a defender before his exit in July 2021. In June 2020, the defender suffered a serious injury after being stabbed in the buttocks, with injuries not being life-threatening.

He was recently he has been training with fellow Championship club, Birmingham City, however, Blues boss Lee Bowyer told the Birmingham Mail that he has left the St Andrews club to team up with Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United.

It isn’t certain at this stage what this entails for the Blades. United have a mounting injury list and are expected to be without nine players ahead of this weekend’s South Yorkshire clash at home to Barnsley. With nine games remaining in the regular season, and a Play-Off charge is so close, every point and every goal matters, with United looking at every possibility of fielding a strong side.

Being out of contract Wisdom would be eligible to sign despite the transfer window being shut.
