Sheffield United are in talks to extend the deal for Fulham’s Finnish defender Toni Kallio.
Kallio, who joined the Blades on deadline day will see his loan deal come to an end in a few days, but boss Blackwell is hoping to extend it, before time runs out.
‘We are currently speaking to (Fulham boss) Roy Hodgson about extending the deal because we cannot take out a new one in the New Year.’
Kallio has made just two appearances since his arrival, due to illness and loan restrictions, but after his impressive display on Saturday, the Blades manager has clearly been impressed by his pedigree.
‘Toni has had a stop-start period with us – through no fault of his own – but he came back into the side at QPR and did really well for us.’
A deal must be done within the next few days, because he cannot be re-signed after under the loan emergency rules.
