Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell believes Cardiff City will provide tough opposition for the Blades opening game of 2010/11 this Sunday.

The Bluebirds, who today completed the signing of Jason Koumas are amidst a very public financial crisis, but Blackwell believes their off-field troubles won’t have an effect on their on-field display.

‘Maybe it’s not a bad time to be playing them. Who knows?’

‘But whatever is going on off the pitch, the one thing I do know is that Dave is going to have his boys fired-up and ready. So we’ve got to be prepared for that.

‘Cardiff suffered a massive disappointment at Wembley and they are going to want to show that they are over that. Like us, they are going to want to make an early statement of intent.’

United get their season underway a day late, and their Championship opener will be live on Sky at 12.45pm
