Sheffield United could be set to sign Hungarian defender Laszlo Bodnar on a permanent basis following his display against Estudiantes on Sunday.

Bodnar, released from Hungarian champions Debrecen, was a stand out performer against Liverpool in last season’s Champions League encounters, but failed to gain a contract extension, thus allowing his to move elsewhere on a free transfer.

The defender played the entire game in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the Argentine giants, and his agent believes talks can begin soon.

‘He was impressive in the friendly game so we can start talks on Tuesday with the club about the details of a possible contract. If we agree about the financial details then the 46-times capped player can join the Championship side.’

Meanwhile, Blades boss Kevin Blackwell admitted he was impressed with the trialist, who exceeded expectation.
‘It’s always a tough situation knowing that you’ve got one game to show what you can do. But I thought Laszlo acquitted himself well. He’s short of fitness, you could see that, but he finished the match even though we thought we’d only get 45 minutes or so out of him.’
