Billy Sharp’s season got off to a good start with a hat-trick early on against QPR, a far cry from last season’s 6 month barron spell.

However, despite his four goals this term, Sharp has only scored in two games, despite 17 appearances in all competitions. He is known for his work off the ball, which is not a strength of his, but it was his excellent cross which provided Beattie with the winning goal against Watford.

A source from Bramall Lane has said: ‘Sometimes the work Billy puts in, particularly down the flanks, is off the radar for fans. It was his cross that Stephen Quinn buried against Charlton, for instance.

‘It is true to say that he has not had many chances recently and the competition with Darius Henderson and Anthony Stokes coming in has made life more difficult for him. But he is always willing to graft, no-one can take that away from him.’

When United face Ipswich on Saturday, they will be reunited with a couple of old faces; Jon Stead & Alan Quinn, and Sharp is looking forward to seeing the pair:

Ipswich are a good side, especially at home where they like to play some attractive football, so we are expecting it to be a good game.

“It is a tough place to go and play, but we must be go there and pick up a victory to keep challenging for an automatic promotion position.”

“It will be good to see Steady and Quinny again, in fact I spoke to Jon earlier and the banter has begun. He was a good friend during his time here, as was Alan, so it should be an interesting afternoon.”

“We are away from home but are confident of putting in a good performance and collecting three valuable points.”

Just to play Devils advocate, The debate remains however, is grafting enough, when we are supposed to mounting a serious promotion challenge?
