Blades to settle out of court?

The Carlos Tevez saga could come to an end sooner rather than later, if reports are to be believed.

Various sources are claiming that United are set to offer the Hammers a £25m out of court settlement.

On the same day that United have published their annual figures, showing a loss, despite reducing the operating debt, United could use the money to make some serious investment, be it in the playing staff and/or elsewhere.

The original figure quoted was £30m, but this was increased to £50m after the Blades would have to settle for a second season in the Championship, but it’s thought that McCabe would accept half of this figure, which is just short of the original £30m.

An out of court settlement, whilst it may be for a lower figure, would at least guarantee the Blades receiving a considerable amount of compensation, because if it was to go all the way to the High Court, there’s a slight chance that it could go in West Ham’s favour and United would be left with nothing, resulting in 18 months of fighting with no result.

Reports suggest that West Ham are currently struggling financially, so if they’re forced to pay up, it could lead to the majority of the stars leaving the club as soon as possible or the club simply going bankrupt (If they go into administration they would get a 10 point deduction…ironic).

Kevin McCabe realises that the London club would struggle to find that sort of money in a lump sum, and has therefore conceeded that the money will probably have to be received in stages.

I don’t like to put too many articles relating to the Tevez affair, because it just leads to a lot of other fans having a dig at us for being bitter, but this is a fairly significant decision, so I’ve made an exception.
