Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has criticised the decision made my Stephen Jordan, to turn his back on Portsmouth and sign for Sheffield United.

Jordan, who joined the Blades on a free transfer yesterday had been training with Portsmouth over the Summer and was expected to join the south-coast club.

However, after hearing of the Blades interest, the former Manchester City man headed back up north to sign with Blackwell’s men.

Cotterill said: ‘I’m very disappointed in him – but that’s him. He knows my feelings and thoughts.

‘My thoughts about Stephen Jordan will stay with him.’

Portsmouth progressed to the second round of the League Cup last night, with Blades hero Michael Brown netting the winning goal, and young winger Matt Ritchie was forced to play at left-back. The youngster spent last season on-loan with Notts County, and despite an impressive performance, showed Pompey’s need for a left-back.
