Yeates Best Bar None

Mark Yeates was again the hero of the hour for Sheffield United, as his second-half goal was enough for all three points in United’s trip to Hull CIty.

Yeates managed to sidestep Paul McShane and Daniel Ayala before rifling a low shot past former Blade Matt Duke.

No opposition player had scored at the KC Stadium this season, and with United’s misfiring attack taking some criticism, few would have expected the Blades to come away with anything better than a 0-0 draw, but after a poor first half from both sides, Yeates’ strike proved decisive.

Stephen Jordan replaced Ritchie De Laet in United’s only change, and there was a return to the bench for Jamie Ward, previously unavailable through suspension.

Robert Koren, and Liverpool defender Ayala both went close for the home side, without testing Simonsen, before Richard Cresswell and Stephen Quinn had efforts which Duke had to respond to.

Following Yeates’ strike in the second half, the Blades were buoyed, with Jonny Ertl providing a bursting run through the middle of the park, and Cresswell again going close with a header.

With the Tigers looking shellshocked, only loanee John Bostock caused the Blades any problems, firstly firing over the bar from distance, before finding room in stoppage time but fortunatelt ‘keeper Simonsen was alert to snuff out the danger.
