Danny Wilson spoke of his joy at progressing to the League Cup second round, after knocking out former club Hartlepool United.

Wilson, unbeaten in competitive action with United, saw his side overcome League 1 rivals Hartlepool through a penalty shootout, a result that the former ‘Pools man believed was fair.

“First and foremost, the priority was to get through the tie,” he said.
“I thought the game panned out fairly evenly and we had a good few chances each.
“But when the game got in the latter stages I thought we should have put it to bed, we had a lot of chances.
“We allowed their goalie to make some good saves when really we should have given him no chance.
“But it was pulsating game and it showed that coming to Hartlepool is tough and we saw how intimidating it can be at times.
“The lads didn`t shy away during the shoot-out and kept their nerve and we`re happy to be through. It keeps that momentum going.”
