Sheffield United’s development team is back in action this afternoon at 1PM, against Wigan Athletic. The u21’s travel to the DW stadium hoping to remain at the top of the Professional Development League Northern group.

The Blades had a tricky time in mid-August when they lost two of their first three games. However, they have turned the form around by winning three straight games, scoring six goals and only conceding one in that duration.

Wigan will look to jump places from their current league table position which sees them in 4th place. A win over United’s u21’s could see them move into 2nd place. Their u21’s come into this game with a 4-1 victory over Birmingham which saw them snap a losing streak of four losses in a row.

Due to the two-week international break, Paul Heckingbottom may be tempted to throw in a few senior players that haven’t seen much action of late, such as Billy Sharp, who has just recently recovered from an ankle injury.

It is a possibility that we may also see Jordan Amissah and Kyron Gordon in the development team line-up this afternoon. The two youngsters have been serving as backup options from the bench due to injuries in their positions.
