It’s official. Sheffield United have finally made their first signing of the summer in the shape of midfielder Tommy Doyle on a season-long from Premier League Champions, Manchester City.

In what seems a laboured transfer window, Paul Heckingbottom has secured the services of 20-year-old Doyle as announced on VitalBlades earlier today.

He initially signed for the Manchester club in 2009 at the age of eight and has since worked hard and has been given opportunities in the City first-team, playing for the Under-23s in the Football League Trophy, and the UEFA Champions League. Her has also enjoyed loan spells at Hamburg SV (Germany), and last season at Cardiff City, where he played 19 league games and scored twice. Internationally, he has represented England 38 times in various youth teams.

As Hal Stewart from the Sheff United Way demonstrates, Doyle comes from a family of Manchester City former players and supporters. Both his paternal grandfather, Mike Doyle, and maternal grandfather, Glyn Pardoe, represented the Citizens during their football careers.

It appears that the signing of Doyle is an exciting one and we hope that he sets the Lane alight as Morgan Gibbs-White achieved during his loan spell.
