Rhys Norrington-Davies is likely to be out injured for the World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury during Sheffield United’s 1-0 defeat against Coventry City.
United’s relentless left-wingback was having a brilliant season before the 23-year-old pulled up with a hamstring strain early in the first half against the Sky Blues.
Norrington-Davies would likely have been Wales’ starting left-wingback for the World Cup, which would’ve been a deserving reward for his outstanding efforts this season.
“It looks like he will be out,” Page told BBC Sport. “We are awaiting confirmation and it is a big shame for us and for him.”
“It’s a big shame, he’s been brilliant for us,” Page told BBC Sport Wales. “I’ve seen him quite a bit for Sheffield United this season and arguably he’s been their best player.”
Norrington-Davies has been a dependable and flexible player for the Blades in this campaign and has played on the left side of a back three and then been moved back to his natural position at left-wingback.
The Blades are without all three of their left-wingbacks at the moment, with Norrington-Davies joining Max Lowe and Enda Stevens in the treatment room. This is forcing Paul Heckingbottom to play somebody out of position at left-wingback.
Previously, United started Reda Khadra as a left-wingback against Birmingham City, but that didn’t work out great, and he hasn’t featured there since. Now with Ben Osborn back, who is more of a utility player, they have been starting Osborn at left-wingback.
