Sheffield United’s League 1 season gets underway against Gillingham at Priestfield on Saturday to kick-off the 2015/16 season; with this a traditional 3pm kick-off.

Nothing is going to be taken for granted, from this game of the season as a whole, however lets not skirt around the fact Nigel Adkins has been brought in to do the job – as well as he did in cup competitions – that Nigel Clough couldn’t….secure promotion for the Blades!

Gillingham’s captain Doug Loft (calf) and striker Cody McDonald (knee) have both been troubled by injuries in pre-season and aren’t likely to be fit for this one.

The Gills made no fewer than nine signings this summer with Justin Edinburgh expected to hand debuts to several of them.

United aren’t going into this with too much joy, not that Adkins feels these issues are worry of complaining too much about, as we’ll be missing both Matty Done (fractured collarbone) for us to two-months with Jamal Campbell-Ryce (hamstring) also out after pre-season injuries.

Ryan Flynn (Achilles) is also a doubt with an injury from last season with Terry Kennedy (knee) likewise, as he works his way back from a long-term injury.

Martyn Woolford, Conor Sammon and Billy Sharp could all make their Blades debuts, Sharp for a third time, with James Wallace, troubled by a string of injuries last season, also hoping to be involved.

Can the Reds start as we mean to go on?
