Dominic Calvert-Lewin has potential, plenty of it, but his development at this stage will come away from Sheffield United with a loan exit confirmed on sufc.co.uk on Friday.

18-year-old Calvert-Lewin has joined Northampton on loan, a replacement for a teenager the League 2 side had lost to Newcastle – Ivan Toney, in a deal that’ll run until 1st January at this stage.

His debut for the Cobblers, he made his Blades bow against Leyton Orient last season, could come at Bristol Rovers today.

First-team football is what he needs, he’ll be one that we hope gets plenty of this at Bramall Lane in the future with him under contract until 2018, but at the moment Nigel Adkins would have several other players ahead of him in his plans.

This move to Sixfields is the best thing for his continued development; with Northampton familiar with loaning our players as Chris Wilder borrow Diego De Girolamo last season.
