Too big for this level

Nick Montgomery is in no way claiming that Sheffield United, and Sheffield Wednesday for that matter, are too big for league one although the Steel City derby is!

The Blades midfielder, not showing a disrespect to league one, rightly feels that this fixture would not be out of place at a higher level: ‘they are great games and the only thing is that it’s a shame it’s in League One.

‘It should be a Championship fixture with the size of the two clubs.

‘For League One it is a massive game and there is a lot riding on it. We want to keep picking up points and they’ve had a tough run of late and will be desperate to get back on track.’

Montgomery, who knows a thing or two about derby games having made his debut in this fixture as an 18-year-old, knows just what an occasion that this is.

Not just for Blades and Owls fans but the neutrals too: ‘it’s really special, I played my first one when I was 18 and that was at Hillsborough and it was an unbelievable atmosphere.

‘The fact Sheffield Wednesday are still in a great position to fight for automatic promotion and the play-offs makes it a fantastic game, for the neutrals as well.’

This fixture at Hillsborough is likely to attract a crowd that wouldn’t be out of place in the premier league, in fact the attendance will probably be bigger than a number of games at that level this weekend!
