The Steel City derby ended with Sheffield Wednesday claiming the points, and the bragging rights, on Sunday with victory over Sheffield United.

A 1-0 win for The Owls sees them cut The Blades’ lead over them to just two points, although Sheffield United do have games in hand as the battle for automatic promotion continues.

Danny Wilson was obviously disappointed by defeat but feels his side are still in a strong position, which they are.

The Blades manager felt his side were worthy of something from a ‘typical derby game’ but is now looking to the midweek game with Scunthorpe: ‘we’re bitterly disappointed but we’re still in a very strong position. We’ve got a tough match coming up against Scunthorpe on Wednesday night and we’ve got to try and get back to winning ways now.

‘It was a typical derby game and there were a few chances for each team. I thought we defended very well. The lads did well in that respect. But we opened a little door for them and they took the opportunity.

‘Sheffield derbies are special days. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic and they’re games you want to be involved in.’

Things could have been different though as Sheffield United could have, and maybe should have, had at least one penalty with Wilson unhappy with one that was not given in the first half: ‘it was a blatant body-check, there’s no doubt about it.’
