The passing of the torch is in full effect at Sheffield United with the ever-present Chris Basham making admissions about his teammate Anel Ahmedhodzic.

Basham has been a standout player at Bramall Lane for over half a decade. The 34-year-old has tasted jubilation as well as humiliation with the Blades in that time, winning two promotions: once out of League One, and once out of the Championship. Basham was relegated with the Blades from the Premier League in the 20/21 campaign.

Whilst it’s true that Basham is getting older, he can still play a vital part for United, even if he doesn’t have any game involvement. His words of wisdom and judgement can help some of the younger defenders at United’s disposal.

One teammate that Basham is particularly fond of is Anel Ahmedhodzic. The Bosnian international signed for the Blades from the Champions League club Malmo in the summer.

The 23-year-old has since established himself as a significant starter for United. The Blades are yet to win a game of football without Ahmedhodzic starting – they try to break that record against Bristol City on Tuesday night where Ahmedhodzic will serve a one-match suspension.

Chris Basham spoke fondly of Ahmedhodzic in the pre-match press conference:

“I’m surprised he hasn’t been picked up by [bigger teams].

“We’re the lucky ones and he’s done ever so well for Sheffield United, fair play to whoever brought him in because he’s been fantastic.

“I’m surprised he hasn’t gone [to a Premier League club].

“He will be a Premier League player in the next few years, I’m sure, and I hope it’s for Sheffield United.”

They will be without the Bosnian defender for their trip to Ashton Gate.
