John Pemberton’s side continue to shine in the under 18 Academy league, stretching their run now to six games without defeat.

A 2-1 victory last Saturday over Derby County, followed a superb 6-2 socreline at Leeds United, and other impressive scalps include Newcastle United and the notorious Crewe Alexandre. A Joe Ironside strike ensured a draw against Manchester United, and the Blades have not lost since mid September.

At a time when the Blades are using the youth prospects at their disposal, there hasn’t been a better time to be emerging, and the production line at Shirecliffe appears to be in full-force. Callum McFadzean, capped by England at youth level, as well as captain Elliot Whitehouse (he’s got the right name for it) and Ironside are just three of the players to have excelled this season, alongside Slew who has hit the headlines for his formidable form of late.

John Pemberton took the reigns in the Summer following Ron Reid’s departure last season, and the man who saw the development of Victor Moses, Sean Scannell and John Bostock certainly had the right pedigree. Following the most recent victory over the Rams, Pemberton said:

‘It is great that we are developing a winning mentality and our performances are pleasing on the eye, but our main target remains getting these players ready to be involved with the first-team.

If we keep doing the right things in training and in game situations then the lads will continue to develop and we will get the desired results, more often than not.’
