Sheffield United youngster Matt Lowton insists there’s more to come, as he’s not yet “the finished article” despite an impressive start to the season.

Lowton, who suffered a blow when he was sent off in the season opener at Cardiff, has established himself as being very much a part of Gary Speed’s first team squad, proving his worth at full-back and as a goal-scoring midfielder.

However, despite his role at the Lane increasing, he insists there’s more work to be done.

‘It is all I ever wanted to do. Growing up, I only ever wanted to be part of the first-team working towards a Saturday to get three points. I go in every day to training and try my hardest.”

In a week that has seen Jordan Slew sign a professional deal, and a string of players emerging towards the first team such as Jordan Chappell and Kinglsey James, Lowton has had some words of wisdom of his very own.

“‘I feel like I am a role model for the younger players.

‘A few of the younger lads have come up to me in training and asked me what it is like in the first-team and I’ve just told them to carry on working hard. “
