It’s league cup action for Sheffield United tonight as we travel to higher league opponents.

There’s no love lost between West Ham United and Sheffield United with the sides doing battle at Upton Park this evening in the second round of the league cup.

West Ham will be without Kevin Nolan (fractured shoulder) but Matt Jarvis (thigh) could return but Carl Jenkinson (hamstring) not likely to be risked with Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho poised to make full debuts.

Youngster Dan Potts, Reece Burke, Diego Poyet and Danny Whitehead should feature.

Nigel Clough will make the odd change or two following our one-nil win over Crawley Town on Saturday, although with form and momentum growing he’ll not want to rock the boat too much.

No new injury or suspension problems doesn’t force Clough’s hand but Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Mark McNulty, Bob Harris, Louis Reed and Ryan Flynn would be looking for recalls, with Michael Higdon possibly dropping back to the bench.

The last league cup meeting came in 1991, which West Ham won as they had the meeting before in 1971 but in the last five games in all competitions we’ve lost just once and a win over last seasons nine-nil aggregate semi final losers could well be on.
