Sheffield United made the semi finals of the FA Cup last season, we’re just tonight’s game away from making the semi finals of the league cup this term.

We’ve become real cup specialists recently, promotion is the priority but we’ll be looking to continue our league cup run tonight when Premier League Southampton come to Bramall Lane.

Nigel Clough knows that we’ll be without the experienced duo of Paddy McCarthy and Chris O’Grady (ineligible) as they’re both unable to feature for us in the league cup.

Chris Basham has to be content with a place on the bench at the weekend, in the one-one draw with Fleetwood, as that was all his fitness allowed by he is expected to be fit enough to feature tonight.

Southampton’ topscorer Graziano Pelle (suspension) is out and Morgan Schneiderlin had been ‘doubtful’ but reports say he’ll make it. Jake Hesketh (knee) was injured in the defeat to Burnley and set to miss out.

A strong side will be selected by the topflight outfit.

Never before have we met in the league cup, a quarter final meeting being the first one is some occasion isn’t it! We did win the last meeting, in the Championship back in 2009, two-one and we’ll take that again but defensively we’ve shut out Southampton on four of the last five visits so we’ll take that too!
