Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough says they have signed a proven goalscorer at League One level after bringing in Billy Paynter from Doncaster Rovers on loan.
Paynter has signed for United to boost an attack that has netted just 23 goals in 24 league games this season.
Speaking on the official website , Clough said, ‘Billy is a proven striker at this level and he gives us additional options with a busy period of fixtures ahead. He is cup-tied but available for the league games and will be able to share the load with Chris Porter.’
Paynter has scored just once for Doncaster this season in twelve appearances in the championship but he has a much better record during his playing days in League One.
Last season he netted 13 times for Doncaster as they won the League One title.
He joined Doncaster after an unsuccessful spell in the championship with Leeds United, who signed him after he netted 29 times for Swindon Town in League One.
Ironically, Paynter joins Sheffield United having been sent off in his last two appearances against them.
