Hibernian manager Terry Butcher says the form of Jamie Murphy for Sheffield United has scuppered any chance of him returning north of the border.

Murphy, who joined Sheffield United from Motherwell last January, has now scored three goals in his last seven games for the blades, including the opener in their FA Cup win at Premier League Aston Villa last weekend.

Hibs boss Butchers says his recent form means he has lost any chance of signing the 24-year-old who worked with him previously at Motherwell.

Speaking in the Daily Record , Butcher said, “Jamie has scored three in four games now for Sheffield United, so he will not be joining us. I`ve spoken to Nigel Clough and he won`t be coming.

“I was very interested in him. I know Jamie from Motherwell and he would have done very well for us. But last Saturday before we played Dundee United I had the internet on and I saw that Sheffield United were winning 1-0 at Villa.

“I looked up and said, ‘Oh f***, Murphy`s scored again, f***! It was so frustrating.

“So Murphy`s another we scratch off the list.”

Murphy has made seventeen appearances for the blades this season, appearing in each of their last nine games.
