Sheffield United caretaker manager Chris Morgan said it was a massive three points after seeing the side beat fellow promotion hopefuls Swindon Town at Bramall Lane.

Morgan took over from Danny Wilson in midweek and he watched as United brought to an end a run of four home games without a goal, with a convincing win over Swindon.

A defeat for the blades would have seen them hanging onto a play-off place but the win puts them right back in the automatic promotion picture.

‘It was a big day for us. It was a big game and a massive three points for where we want to get to at the end of the season,” Morgan told Radio Sheffield.

‘The pressure we put on Swindon was relentless and that comes from a quick start and coming out of the traps at them.”

United dominated the first half and eventually took the lead on 37 minutes when Chris Porter headed home.

Swindon tried to get back into the game in the second half but United were not to be denied and Dave Kitson headed home his eleventh goal of the season with just eight minutes remaining to clinch the points.

United are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome third placed Brentford to Bramall Lane in their rearranged game.

A win for United would move them to within one point of Brentford and just three points behind second placed Bournemouth, with a game in hand.
