Sheffield United defender Tony McMahon says he jumped at the chance to join championship side Blackpool and he would be keen on a longer stay at Bloomfield Road.

The defender joined Blackpool on a 28-day loan on Friday in a swap deal that saw Blackpool defender Bob Harris come to Bramall Lane.

McMahon had a brief loan spell with Blackpool in 2007 but he was forced to return to parent club Middlesbrough after picking up an injury in only his second game for Blackpool at Southampton and he is hoping to stay injury free this time around.

Speaking on the Blackpool official website , McMahon said, ‘It’s Championship football and that was the main thing for me. The lads are all together, right behind the manager, we’ll stick together and keep doing what we’re doing.

‘I got the call on Friday to see if I’d come along and I jumped at the chance. My last loan was brief, just two games, so hopefully this time will be longer.

‘We’ll see what happens, I’m here to play football and hopefully we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.”

McMahon, who was a regular in the blades side before his departure, made his Blackpool debut against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. He completed the 90 minutes for Blackpool as they were pegged back late on in a 1-1 draw with former blades striker Billy Sharp equalising for our South Yorkshire neighbours having rejoined them in the week from Southampton on loan.

McMahon did pick up his ninth yellow card of the season in the game and he is now just one yellow card away from a two-match suspension under the totting up system.
