Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough felt his side did well despite seeing them lose for a first time under his management at Shrewsbury Town.

The blades went down to a goal in each half after controlling the tempo for much of the game.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Clough said, “I was very disappointed with the result. I thought the performance was not too bad.

“We conceded a wonder goal when we were on top and then ill-discipline cost us.

“I thought the attitude and commitment was excellent. We kept plugging away with ten-men and we continued to create chances.

“Believe it or not, I didn`t think there was too much wrong despite losing 2-0.”

The blades fell behind on 39 minutes when Joe Jacobson scored with a long-range effort. Their chances were dealt a blow early in the second half when Febian Brandy was shown a straight red card.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, United still controlled the game but they were undone for a second time late in the game when Liam McAlinden fired home.
