Sheffield United goalkeeper Steve Simonsen claims that the changes at Bramall Lane under Gary Speed have been ‘gradual’ with the Welshman not turning things on their heads.

Speed, who took over from Kevin Blackwell got his first win in the home game against Preston North End, but has had to wait two weeks before looking to build on that.

‘It always seems to be the case with an international break, you just get going, get that first win then up pops the break when everyone just wants to get back out there and gain some momentum.’ Simonsen said speaking ahead of the game at Pride Park.

It gives Speed a chance to get his first points on the road, but despite the slight change in philosophy on the field, the former Stoke City stopper insists that there’s been no dramatic changes n culture at the club.

‘Obviously Gary has got his own ideas but he hasn’t come in gung-ho and changed everything.

‘Things will change but it will be a gradual process rather than flipping the coin straight over to the other side.’
