Sheffield United boss Gary Speed admits the Blades were fortunate in their victory over Portsmouth, but declared himself pleased with the result.
Following United’s 4-0 defeat at home to Scunthorpe on Tuesday it was important United found their feet after some encouraging displays in recent weeks.
Therefore, despite a poor performances by the home side, the three points was the most important thing for rookie boss Speed.
‘Credit Portsmouth, they have done a job on us. They played very well and stopped us playing,’ he said.
‘We could play a lot better but we won the game, which I am delighted with.
‘You can’t play great every week and when you don’t you have to make sure you get a result and that’s what we did.’
