Blades boss Gary Speed has quickly entered ‘manager’ mode, blasting referee Neil Swarbrick’s performance in last night’s 4-0 home defeat against Scunthorpe.

Speed, did give credit to the visitors, who despite defending for large parts of the game, managed to take the chances that came their way, something the Blades failed with.

‘Firstly, credit to Scunthorpe, they played great in their manager’s first game, you can’t fault them. But they had a lot of help tonight and took advantage of it.

Speed was left angered by the referee, who he believes made the wrong call on three major decisions.

‘Their first goal, if you look at the video it’s blatant handball. Then we had a goal disallowed. I’ve seen the video and I haven’t got a clue what they disallowed it for.’

Whilst fans may claim it’s another referee who disliked us, it was his general incompetence that generally marred the game, as he failed to spot a number of decisions early on, such as Richard Cresswell’s blatant handball that almost led to a goal, amongst other things.
