Sander Berge grabbed the limelight once more, scoring United’s opener in the 2-1 away victory against Blackpool.

The World Cup break came at the perfect time for the Blades and especially for Sandee Berge. Berge managed to regain fitness over the international break after suffering another injury, and he looks like a new signing since coming back to Championship action.

Berge notched against the Seasiders making it his fourth goal of the season. But it was more than just the goal that caught Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe’s eye.

Hinchcliffe exclaimed on Sky Sports commentary:

“He’s doing everything you need from someone playing the position he is. Getting into the opponent’s box, scoring goals, but getting back to help out defensively as well. Sander Berge has absolutely everything.

The physicality, the athleticism, he can finish, he’s a great technical player as well. I think in the last few games we’ve seen just how important he is to Sheffield United.”

The stats back up that theory too. The Norwegian is averaging 1.5 shots per game, along with 1.2 key passes per game, as well as recording 1.2 successful tackles per game and on average he is winning 4 total duels per game.

Sander Berge has been playing slightly deeper of late, with Tommy Doyle taking a spot on the bench, and James McAtee playing as the more attacking of the midfielders. But Berge naturally will creep forward and mark his territory in and around the opposition box.

As the January transfer window approaches and Berge’s performances continue to lap up applause from fans and pundits, there will be plenty of rumours to come out regarding a potential transfer over these next few weeks.

With the latest win, United have widened the gap to 11pts between themselves and 3rd place Blackburn Rovers; Blackburn lost 2-1 to Middlesbrough.
