The Blades waited for their final pre-season game to put in their most promising performance against Colin Calderwood’s Nottingham Forest side yesterday.

Prior to the game the United fans were introduced to new signings James Beattie and David Carney, who both signed contracts on Friday.

A single goal from Billy Sharp, his second since signing in pre-season, was enough for the Blades to sign off with a narrow victory in the final warm-up game.

United were certainly not impressive throughout the whole 90 minutes, but managed to put together some nice football at times and really should have won by more.

The goal came after just 9 minutes when SHARP reacted quickest to Paul Smith’s initial save to finish neatly from a tight angle.

Lee Hendrie, in his first start for the Blades, looked impressive throughout, showed some lovely touches on the ball and passed it well.

Forest, who narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship via the playoffs last season, were fairly disappointing though and rarely troubled Kenny in net.

The away side could have grabbed a late equaliser but Kenny pulled off a double save to deny them.
