Sheffield United completed the signings of striker James Beattie and winger David Carney at the weekend.

Beattie completed his £4M record breaking move to United from Everton, while Carney moved from Sydney FC for just £50,000.

Both players were unveiled to United fans before the friendly with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which the Blades won 1-0.

Manager Bryan Robson has made no secret of his desire to sign Beattie, and spoke to BBC Sport on his joy at capturing his target,

‘I’m delighted. We’ve got a strike force now that ranks as the best in the Championship. It’s a signal of our intention to return to the top flight.’

Meanwhile, Carney, who is seen as an out-and-out winger, said that speaking to Mark Viduka and Mark Schwarzer about Bryan Robson persuaded him to sign.
