The Blades put another woeful performance in on their travels yesterday and again came away with the same result and feelings of frustration.

After a fairly slow start to the game, with both sides creating only half chances, Scunthorpe should have been in front on 18 minutes.

Montgomery got caught in possession, allowing Paterson to latch on to his loose ball and finish past Kenny, but the linesman, wrongly, flagged for offside.

The Blades replied with a freekick from Beattie that went straight at the keeper and a shot from Sharp that was once again dealt with.

The home side took the lead though on 37 minutes when a cross deflected into the path of CROSBY and the defender smashed the ball into the top corner.

Montgomery hit a shot just over before the away side were met with boo’s from the travelling fans as the half time whistle sounded.

If Blades fans were expecting an improvement in the second half they were to be disappointed as Scunthorpe doubled their lead on the hour mark.

Former Blade, Forte, cut inside from the right wing and found PATERSON in acres of space on the left and the striker coolly slotted past Kenny.

Forte went close for Scunthorpe with a header and Sharp smashed a shot over for the Blades, before WEBBER’S introduction completely changed the look of the game.

The striker pulled one back in the 79th minute when he met Beattie’s flick on to power a header past Murphy and into the top corner.

The lifeline seemed to revive the away side and, unbelievably, the Blades were back level only four minutes latter.

WEBBER again latched on to a Beattie header and just beat the keeper and defender to touch the ball home.

It seemed the Blades were now on top for the first time in the game as they pushed on for the winner.

Some Blades fans thought they had it when Beattie finished from Webber’s through ball but the linesman had his flag raised for a debatable offside.

More excitement ensued when Geary and Byrne were both sent off for clashing their heads together in an off the ball incident.

However, worse was to follow for the away side, as neither the defence or Kenny dealt with the resulting freekick and SPARROW found the net from close range.

Although the quick fire goals from Webber gave United some hope, it should not mask the inadequacies of Robson’s side.

The Blades were not only poor defensively, but nearly non-existent in midfield, as they slipped to another away defeat.

I, like most, can stand seeing us lose as long as we play good football and see signs of improvement but Robson has so far shown very little to suggest either are going to be quick in coming.

One thing’s for sure; a HUGE improvement is needed against Wolves in a fortnight!!!
