Micky Adams was left ruing a poor defensive showing once again, as the Blades failure to make possession count was punished with a solitary goal.

‘For long periods we dominated but again we gave away a sloppy goal, this time from the second phase of a free-kick which has obviously been our Achilles heel on too many occasions.

‘We have worked ever so hard trying to rectify that on the training ground this week but obviously the lesson has not been learned

The Blades held their own in what was far from a good game at Bramall Lane yesterday afternoon, and had a lot of possession in the Championship fixture. However, their use of the ball was substandard and goalkeeper Frankie Fielding was only called into action on one occasion.

‘We had one or two cleared off the line and a couple of other chances but if I was being ultra critical of anything it would be that we didn’t work their goalkeeper enough.

‘There were numerous crosses going into the right areas, of the right quality, but we didn’t show the desire to get on the end of them or the anticipation to be in the right place when half clearances drop.
