Sheffield United Chief Executive Jason Rockett has confirmed the Blades have been granted planning permission to expand Bramall Lane.

United’s plans to boost the capacity to 44,000 as well as state of the art facilities on the Kop and Valad Stand (Laver Stand to you and me) can begin as soon as possible.

‘This is good news for Sheffield United and the city.

‘Our focus remains firmly on achieving success on the pitch and the planned stadium developments will contribute to our continued long term strategy to drive off-the-field income for a sustainable business supporting further investment in the first team squad.

‘The next steps will be to firm up on design and delivery always ensuring we minimise potential disruption to supporters.’

At Kevin McCabe’s open forum during the summer, where he opened the floor up, in a Question Time-esque manner, he mentioned the roof coming off the Kop in January, but whether the work gets underway this quickly is yet to be seen.
