Chris Porter and Ben Davies have both spoken following their signing of 12 month deals yesterday.

Starting with 30 year old Porter, he told the Official Site that he wasn’t looking to move anywhere else, even though some clubs had expressed an interest in him, because as soon as he knew their was an offer on the table from Sheffield, he knew he would be staying.

‘I’m pleased to get it done, there hasn’t been a delay as such, I’ve been away in Scotland for the last 10 days or so. I haven’t looked elsewhere, once I knew there was an offer on the table I was keen to extend my stay at United.’

Porter goes on to say that he’s happy in the area and he knows that the club are ‘going places’ and he wants to play his part in that, because it could be the start of something special, and that overrides the fact he could’ve possibly moved on for more money.

‘That isn’t what drives me, I’m a loyal person and I’m happy in Sheffield. Me and my partner are happy and that means I can solely focus on my football next season.’

He finishes by saying that with how he ended our last campaign, he’s now hoping to hit the ground running and continue that sort of form from the beginning of the season now.

As for 33 year old Davies, he said we have only one aim for next season, and that’s to get ourselves promoted as League Champions.

‘It’s brilliant to have been able to tie everything up so early in the summer, now I can focus on returning for pre season. I needed to sort things out at Derby before I could sign here, but thankfully we got the paperwork done pretty quickly.’

Davies says he could’ve stayed in the Championship for another few seasons given the offers he did have, but for him dropping a level is simply a sideways step ‘because this is a club on the up and you know what you get when you work with the gaffer.’

Of course, Davies has now played under Nigel Clough in over 100 games, so he certainly knows him well and what he expects and he adds that did play a big part in him coming to the club in the first place, so obviously played his part in coming on a permanent basis.

‘Now I want to come back and be a part of a promotion winning side next season, the target is to win League One.’
