Opinion: It could be a case of now or never for Sheffield United when it comes to the F.A Cup

|

I’m going to sound like Eminem in ‘Lose Yourself’ here, but I think it’s a very poignant point.

We have one shot, and one opportunity this season to do something special. And depending on how things play out, we may literally only get one shot at it.

Whilst the Blades are doing well in the league, currently occupying the spot for the Europa League 2nd qualifying round, we’ve also got a strong chance of going well in the F.A Cup as we are scheduled to face Arsenal until things got postponed.

Reports came out over the weekend, that the FA Cup has had a date finalised for when it is set to be completed this season, once the Premier League gets its ‘project restart’ out of the way first, which seems fair. However, I think that this could be the Blades’ best chance to win the cup for some time, and it’s something we have to take seriously when and if the competition starts up again.

There are reports that the League Cup could be scrapped next season to help ease on fixture congestion, and I fear that the F.A Cup could go the same way as well if leagues feel that they need to prioritise the league season over cup competitions.

Will this season's FA Cup be completed?

Yes

Yes

No

No

That makes this season’s F.A Cup all the more important that we give it our all because that could mean we won’t have a chance to win the completion until the end of the 2022/23 season, and who knows what kind of situation the club is going to be in at that stage.

And whilst we have made great strides in the competition in the past when we weren’t as big, most notably the 2013/14 campaign, chances are it will be very hard for us to get back to this stage of the competition again, so it could be a case of full steam ahead for this year, because you never know when we might get the chance to claim some silverware again will come from.
