Staying or leaving was the question surrounding Sheffield United’s star midfielder Sander Berge throughout the entirety of this summer.

It was anxious times for United supporters as the majority of them believed that the big Norwegian was heading to Club Brugge on transfer deadline day, as the Belgian side came in with a big offer, but the board stood firm and rejected.

Paul Heckingbottom has been on record multiple times over the course of the last couple of months, describing Sander Berge as “priceless” to United’s promotion cause.

Sander Berge, 24, opened up to the Norwegian outlet tv2 about just how hectic his summer was when dealing with the uncertainty of his immediate future.

The Norwegian midfielder told the outlet:

“I had my agent over. There was a lot of activity. I stayed in a hotel all summer. It was a bit awkward lying in there with three or four half-open suitcases. I moved out between seasons and stayed in a hotel for the last few weeks.

“I sat there and didn’t quite know what was happening. It has been back and forth. There was a lot of interest, concrete interest, you weighed things up a bit, it had to work out for both the club and me, and it didn’t happen.”

Usually, if a player is linked with a move away from their club they will sit out games, but Berge hasn’t, which shows just how good of a professional he is.

United’s number 8 has started all ten league games this season, and he has picked up six-goal contributions, three goals and three assists, during that period.

With the Blades sitting at the top of the Premier League, what would it mean for the future of Sander Berge if Paul Heckingbottom’s men were to gain promotion this season?

Would the Blades cash in, or would they keep the Norwegian international and try to mould a team around him?
