Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny is set for a final round of showdown talks regarding a new contract at Bramall Lane.

The stopper who is currently serving a nine month suspension for a failed drugs test over the summer is unable for competition until April, but the prospect of his club standing by him could encourage Kenny to stay on the right track.

It would be easy for the Blades to allow Kenny’s contract to finish come the end of the season, leaving Kenny’s career in doubt, but it appears that Kevin Blackwell is looking at the possibility of extending the current deal that the ‘keeper has.

‘Paddy is very important for us, there’s no point in pretending otherwise.’ said manager Blackwell, whose signing Mark Bunn, has now been replaced by Ian Bennett.
