Oli McBurnie bagged his first goal in 43 league games last night to send the Blades back home with a point. Kenilworth Road is a hard place to go to and win, Luton only lost 4 times at home last season.

The Scottish international striker scored an exquisite outside of the foot volley into the top right corner, you wouldn’t have thought McBurnie was struggling for goals the way he finished his chance last night.

Speaking after the game, McBurnie was vocal on his recent struggle to be fit:

“It’s a big year. The last 2 years have been really frustrating with injuries, illnesses, bad form, bad performances. I want a fresh start and I’ve worked hard to get in the team and now I’ve got to stay in it.”

During a post match interview with Sky Sports, McBurnie hailed coach Jack Lester after getting on the scoresheet for the first time in 43 league games. McBurnie was asked about the 43 game goal drought:

“It tests you mentally. There’s always some doubts but you have confidence in yourself. The boys have been excellent and the staff have been really good with me. Jack [Lester] says do the right things and it comes naturally.” [Sky Sports]

He added:

“He’s been great. A lot of individual sessions and work on the training field and I think he’ll be happier than me with that one.” [Sky Sports]
