Matt Done was involved enough during Sheffield United’s League One title winning season to earn a contract extension but the former Rochdale forward can leave Bramall Lane, Rotherham are interested.

Despite the appearance related clause triggering an extended deal, Done was transfer listed by Chris Wilder when the retained list was revealed at the end of last season.

Rotherham have admitted an interest in Done but his switch to the New York Stadium is far from complete.

Millers coach Matt Hamshaw told the Sheffield Star: ‘That will probably be one that bubbles away until Sheffield United know what they want to do. We know where we are with it. At this moment in time, he`s a Sheffield United player. They need to see what they want to do with him. We do like the player. It`s one where the plates are still spinning. It`s not crashed on the floor yet. I think that will be one, probably, where it will be later on in pre-season when we get to know just how it turns out.’

Looking to bounce back from Championship relegation, Rotherham have several deals lined up with Done, 28, one of them.

Done’s well proven in League One so wouldn’t be a bad addition to the Rotherham squad. However, there’s likely to be interest in the United forward, who made 35 appearances last season.

Hamshaw’s said a loan or permanent deal appeals to Rotherham, which depends on United’s thinking.

Adding: ‘It could be a season-long loan or a permanent deal; whatever fits. It depends on Sheffield United really. They might say he`s surplus to requirements, which might lead to something for him which then might open the door to us taking him permanently. Everything is in their court at the minute. We`re speaking to clubs all the time about players, and he`s certainly one who is on our list and who we`re interested in.’
