The Blades were off the pace yet again as they lost 1-0 to Coventry City via a late penalty from Martyn Waghorn which Chris Basham gave away.
Paul Heckingbottom made three changes to the side, Adam Davies made his Sheffield United debut as he replaced the suspended Wes Foderingham. Anel Ahmedhodzic came back into the XI, and so did Oli McBurnie. Whilst John Fleck was named on the bench.
The first half saw extremely poor football being played by both sides. Some more bad news came for the Blades though when Rhys Norrington-Davies suffered a hamstring injury, and James McAtee replaced him.
Just before half-time, McAtee lunged into a tackle which provoked the fans and the players, but the referee booked the Manchester City youngster. Sheaf and Dabo were both shown yellow cards shortly after.
In the second half, Dabo could’ve seen a second yellow card but the referee let him off with a final warning. From the resulting freekick, Norwood’s inswinging ball hit the woodwork. Ndiaye also had the keeper troubled. Bidwell was booked by the referee for a foul on Ahmedhodzic.
The Blades were firmly on top in this second period, McAtee effortlessly grazed past two defenders as he nutmegged a defender but the ball across the box came to nothing.
In the 69th minute, Basham collided with Palmer which could’ve been given by the referee, however, he chose not to. McBurnie was vitally unlucky when he saw his long-range effort hit the post.
With just 4 minutes to play, Gyokeres got in down the right side and Basham needlessly fouled the Coventry forward. Waghorn dispatched the penalty into the bottom left corner past a diving Davies.
United are now winless in 5 games.
