Newcastle United are now out of the running for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge.
The Magpies are interested in signing the Norwegian international for a loan with an obligation to buy, which would see the Blades pocket a large chunk of cash over time.
However, with the current state of affairs at Sheffield United Football Club, the Blades are desperate for cash immediately. They need to pay off a remaining installment in order to get their way out of a transfer embargo.
Failing to lift the embargo will see Sheffield United be issued a transfer ban for the next two windows. Which will make life extremely difficult next season, if they do clinch promotion this season
Per the reports, Newcastle United see Berge as a potential replacement for Jonjo Shelvey, who is set to sign for Nottingham Forest.
It has been confirmed this afternoon that Sander Berge has been training, as normal, at Sheffield United’s training ground. Iliman Ndiaye has been training also, but United are not interested in selling Ndiaye, no matter what the offer is.
Time is running out for the Blades, and this is a crucial moment in their future; it will be a tough obstacle to overcome a transfer embargo for the whole of next season in the Premier League.
United do not have to sell to get out of an embargo. They can ask the EFL to give them extra time to sort out the outstanding payment, due to the club being in the middle of a takeover.
