Paddy Kenny today saw the appeal to overturn his drugs ban rejected, leaving him with the nine month suspension.

Kenny had appealed the ban, due to the suspension noting that he took the banned substance by accident, but at Wembley today, despite having the backing of the Player’s union, FA bigwigs rejected his appeal.

Kenny released a statement shortly after that read:

‘I am devastated that an honest mistake on my part could cost me my career.

‘I would like to thank Sheffield United – plus all my current and former team-mates, as well as my agent – for their support throughout.

‘I am positive I will bounce back, and I really hope that this experience will stop others from making the same mistake.’

The response from the FA didn’t justify why his ban was upheld, instead just refusing to reduce the sentence.

‘The appeal board dismissed the appeal by Mr Paddy Kenny against his nine-month suspension for a breach of the FA doping regulations.

‘The regulatory commission’s decision to impose a nine-month suspension was an appropriate measure of the seriousness of the offence.’

Could this be the end of Paddy Kenny’s career? The goalkeeper, who is the wrong side of thirty, is already known not to have natural match fitness, and could a season out of football cost him the rest of a career, that could potentially have given him World Cup football after he announced last season that he was available again.
