Sheffield United have signed former Ipswich and Arsenal goalkeeper Richard Wright, on a short term deal until January.

Wright, who finished last season with Ipswich Town, where he also began his career has been on trial at Shirecliffe in the hunt for a new contract, and is expected to be on the bench for Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at Leeds.

Speed said of the signing: ‘We are delighted to be able to bring in someone of Richard’s calibre. He has hundreds of first team games behind him.’

Wright brings with his a wealth of experience, as well as two caps for the England national team, and is likely to push current number one Steve Simonsen for a first team berth.
