Austrian midfielder has contrasting first season…
Signed on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, Jonny Ertl proved to be a useful utility man for the Blades covering a number of positions.
Unfortunately, beginning the season at full-back, Ertl was unable to shine, but solid displays led to him moving into a more familiar central role be it in the heart of defence or as a part of Gary Speed`s three man midfield.
With a battering ram type approach, Ertl was a typical workman in the side, and despite lacking an often much needed flair, a rocket of a right foot came close to providing goals on more than one occasion.
Ertl was in and around the squad all season playing 30 games in total, but the Austrian didn`t appear from the beginning of March through injury.
Season highlight: Meeting me in a Viennese cafe in November.
eason lowlight: Having his prematurely ended, missing the vital run-in.
