Blades striker Darius Henderson has taken responsibility for the Blades relegation to League 1.

The striker, who has only returned to the side as the season reached its climax believes he should shoulder a large chunk of the blame for the disastrous campaign the Blades have suffered.

“I hold myself responsible for us going down,” Henderson told The Star. “That`s the way I am.

It`s not in my nature to blame others or make excuses. I know I haven`t played much but that`s how I feel.

If I had been fit then I could have made a contribution in terms of goals and to the team in general that means we might not be in this position.”

Not so long ago I made it plain I wanted to stay and that`s still the case. I`m not asking to leave and I won`t be asking to leave. I`ve got no intention of leaving.”

The Blades forward was injured in United’s pre-season friendly with Notts County under the guidance of Kevin Blackwell, when many believed he wasn’t fit to take part in the first place, but after missing the majority of the season, Henderson returned for the trip to Watford.

And now the striker, who is on a reported £17,000 per week insists he wants to stay, but would have to take a drastic pay cut if his final year at the club is likely to go ahead.

Henderson however, did leave himself open to a move despite his initial call to stay at Bramall Lane.

“If I`m told that an offer has been accepted then obviously I`d have to talk to the other party involved, the same as you would in any other walk of life.”
