If a caller to last night’s Football Heaven on Radio Sheffield is to be believed then we have problems in our dressing room.
The caller claimed to be a friend of a player and, unfortunately for the player in question, didn’t do a great deal to hide his identity. There’s no point in me naming the player, I’m sure he’s cringing enough as it is.
Obviously you have to be very careful when listening to the opinions of a player (or his friend) who isn’t in the team at present. Footballers are notoriously critical of managers who aren’t picking them. Despite this there were some worrying things to come out of last night’s call. Talk of Robson not naming the team until an hour before kick-off seemingly to keep the players on their toes but most annoying to those made to travel to Bristol only to find they’re not even in the squad. Squad members who could’ve moved in the summer but were told to stay as they would be regulars and now find themselves out of favour. Generally the main theme of the call was that things were a shambles at the Lane and a huge mess was being made of getting the ‘best squad in the Championship’ promoted.
It can come as no great surprise if the players aren’t fully behind Robson. His strategy of slaughtering them in public was never likely to see them giving him their wholehearted backing.
