West Brom News, via reliable journalist Alan Nixon, has reported that the Baggies have shown an interest in Leeds-born striker Oli McBurnie who has recently returned from injury and starred in yesterday’s 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

West Brom claimed their first league victory of the season after beating Hull City 5-2 yesterday, which lifted them out of the bottom three, but they are looking to strengthen their squad as they aim for a top six finish come May.

The Scottish international began his career at Bradford City in 2013, playing two years at Valley Parade where he also enjoyed a loan spell at Chester, prior to a move to Swansea City where he made his name as a prolific scorer. With the Swans, he also spent time on loan at Newport County, Bristol Rovers, and at Barnsley. In August 2019 he completed a move to Sheffield United ahead of the Premier League campaign, in a deal believed to be worth up to £ 20 million. At the time he broke the clubs’ transfer record.

Its unclear as to whether the Baggies are serious in an approach to bringing McBurnie to the Hawthorns, or whether this is the general media rumour mill. However, his contract expires next summer and is valued at £4.5million by transfermarkt.com – the Blades board might be willing to free up wages and ease the transfer budget which could allow Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom to strengthen in January.
