Middlesbrough will be eager to claim their first victory of the season when they entertain Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United this Sunday at 2:00 PM. It will be the first time that Boro has hosted the Blades under the stewardship of Chris Wilder.
The Riverside club draw at home to West Bromwich Albion (1-1) on the opening day of the 2022-23 season, before losing 3-2 at Queens Park Rangers last weekend. Like United, they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup First Round after losing 1-0 at home to Barnsley, when Josh Benson netted in the third minute of stoppage-time to prevent a penalty shoot-out and gift the Reds a tie at Leeds United in Round Two. The Blades will be hoping to make it a South Yorkshire double this weekend.
Chris Wilder could hand a debut to a new signing, 21-year-old Matthew Hoppe from Spanish club RCD Mallorca, after arriving on Wednesday. The six-capped USA international could go straight into the starting line-up to face United. They will welcome back defender Darragh Lenihan, after the defender served a one-match suspension, following his dismissal at Loftus Road last weekend.
